Shoplifters caught with thousands of dollars of stolen goods

Two Forsyth County shoplifters have been arrested after getting caught with thousands of dollars’ worth of products from a local drug store.

It began last month when a CVS at Laurel Springs Parkway reported shoplifters and deputies were able to get their description, along with details on their vehicle.

Last week employees at the CVS on Ronald Regan Blvd. recognized the suspects and called the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. Nearby deputies were able to spot the vehicle based on the description and conduct a traffic stop.

One of the suspects, Verlanda Johnson, confessed to taking a box of Rogaine from CVS and consented to a search of her purse. There deputies found hydrocodone pills, leading to a search of the vehicle. The car was full of stolen goods, estimated to be around $10,000 worth. The items stolen included over the counter medicines, drug store items such as finger nail polish and headbands, clothes, shoes and toys. They also seized $3,868 in cash.

During interviews with the suspects, deputies discovered one of the suspects was part of a larger shoplifting crime ring that has been active in several local areas.

Verlanda Johnson was charged with theft by shoplifting and possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance. Sadique Brown was charged with being party to a crime.
