COMMERCE — The Commerce girls softball team opened its 2020 playoffs with a dominating sweep of Chattahoochee County Tuesday at home.
The Lady Tigers routed Chattahoochee County 18-0 and 12-0 in the first round of the Class A Public tournament. They were the only northeast Georgia area team to advance on Tuesday.
Commerce next will take on the Trion-Crawford County winner on Friday at home.
It was a rough day for Region 7-3A in the opening round of the Class 3A tournament. All four teams, including Lumpkin County, North Hall, and White County were swept out of the playoffs.
Lumpkin County, the No. 2 seed from 7-3A, was taken out at home 12-2 and 8-5 to Region 6 No. 3 seed Rockmart 12-2 and 8-5. North Hall was roughed up by Region 6-3A champion Coahulla Creek 8-0 and 13-1 in Dalton. White County put up a good fight on the road but was also swept by Sonoraville 5-0 and 7-3. Region champ Gilmer was swept by No. 4 seed Ringgold.
The second round is set to begin on Thursday and Friday.
