A rezoning to allow for a distribution center on Falcon Parkway close to the new I-985 interchange at H.F. Reed Industrial Parkway received final approval from the Flowery Branch City Council Thursday.
Initially, the city had planned to annex all 45 acres of the project into the city, but city officials said an intergovernmental agreement between Flowery Branch and the city of Oakwood had been reached, meaning the majority of the property will be in Oakwood. Thursday, the city council finalized the rezoning of the 21-acre tract that will remain in Flowery Branch.
Flowery Branch City Manager Bill Andrew said Oakwood will look to annex and rezone the remaining 24 acres and the two cities will split the water and sewer revenue from the development.
"We weren't sure if Oakwood was going to want to annex this property, but Oakwood did show a desire to want to work with us on the annexation on their side and we worked out this agreement in just a matter of days," Andrew said. "I thought it was very fair to everyone."
Andrew said the Oakwood City Council will hold a special called meeting soon to rezone their parts of the property.
The development is expected to consist of either one or two buildings totaling around 75,000 square feet. One resident spoke against the project at Thursday's meeting citing concerns over truck traffic and over-development of the Martin Road corridor, but the city council approved the rezoning unanimously.
