Girls basketball: Bluff gets 1st 7-3A win; Lakeview, Branch, Rabun County, Dawson County get wins

FLOWERY BRANCH — Madi Phillips poured in 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead Cherokee Bluff to a 71-60 upset win over East Hall Friday night.

It was the first Region 7-3A win of the season for the Lady Bears (4-17, 1-7 Region 7-3A) who snapped a seven-game losing streak.

Timber Gaither added 16 points and 4 steals and Finley Millwood had 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals for Cherokee Bluff. Alexis Mize had 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, Taylor Click had 8 points, and Shania Byars had 3points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists for the Lady bears.

East Hall (7-13, 3-6 Region 7-3A) was led by Maleah Harrison with 16 points. Callie Dale had 14 points and Alexis Burce 11 points for the Lady Vikings.

East Hall is back in action on Monday in a cross-town rivalry matchup with Gainesville on MLK Day. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

Cherokee Bluff net will play host to Fannin County on Tuesday.


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 72,
PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN 28

The Lady Lions outscored The Storm 27-4 in the second quarter en route to the big Region 8-A win on the road.

With the victory Lakeview Academy (16-5, 5-0 Region 8-A) kept pace with Hebron Christian atop the region standings.

Lakeview led 18-8 after the opening period but used the big second quarter to run out to a 45-12 halftime lead. The Lady Lions took a 61-21 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Eliza Snyder also kept up her torrid scoring pace pouring in 30 points to go with 12 rebounds, 8 assists, and 6 steals to lead the Lady Lions. Maddy Towles added 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists, and Jackie Allen had 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals for Lakeview.

Ellie Kate Madonna had 8 points and 5 steals, Elise Roark 6 points, and Sydney Corbin 5 points.

Lakeview next will play Mt. Paran on Monday at 11:45 a.m. at Holy Innocents School.


FLOWERY BRANCH 47,
BLESSED TRINITY 38

After a slow three quarters, the Lady Falcons exploded for a huge 23-point fourth quarter to rally for the victory in a key Region 7-4A matchup in Roswell.

Flowery Branch (12-8, 6-2 Region 7-4A) led 12-8 after the first quarter and just 20-19 at halftime. Blessed Trinity (6-13, 2-7 Region 7-4A) held the Lady Falcons to just four third-quarter points while grabbing a 28-24 advantage.

But Flowery Branch nearly doubled their output in the final frame outscoring the Lady Titans 23-10 to pull away for the win.

Ashlee Locke had a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Shaina Kriews added 11 points and Morgan Aguilar chipped in with 9 points for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Falcons will play host to Oconee County on Saturday in a non-region showdown.


RABUN COUNTY 67,
BANKS COUNTY 56

Rabun County maintained its slim lead in Region 8-2A with a tough road win in Homer Friday night.

The Lady Wildcats (18-1, 8-1 Region 8-2A) got 21 points Carley Haban to lead the way. Laken Stiles added 15 points and 4 assists and Destiny Deetz had 13 points and 6 rebounds for Rabun County.

The win keeps Rabun County just one-half game ahead of both Union County and Putnam County in the standings.

The loss drops Banks County (8-12, 4-5 Region 8-2A) into fifth place in the region standings.


DAWSON COUNTY 67,
DENMARK 44

Dawson County used a huge second-half surge to pull away for a lopsided win in a non-region battle.

The Lady Tigers (12-8) led 15-11 after the first quarter and just 26-23 at halftime. But they stormed out of the intermission to outscore the Lady Danes (6-15) 18-10 and then exploded for a 23-11 fourth quarter to blow it open.

Avery Herring scored 18 points to pace Dawson County. Maddie Anglin had 16 points and Marlie Townley and Sophia D'Oliveira 10 points each for the Lady Tigers.

Dawson County next will travel to North Hall on Tuesday in a huge Region 7-3A tilt.


WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 43,
LANIER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 29

The Lightning led early but could not hold on to the lead as they took a loss on the road.

LCA led 7-3 after the opening frame but fell behind 22-18 at halftime. WCA turned up the defense in the second half holding the Lightning to just 11 points while pulling away for the victory.

Reece Montgomery was the only LCA scorer in double figures with 10 points. Hollie Beussee had 5 points and no one else had more than four for the Lightning.

Sallie Schutz paced WCA with 18 points and Lanie Bauer had 15 points.

LCA fell to 11-3 on the season and will travel to Young Americans Christian Academy on Tuesday.
