GAINESVILLE — The Gainesville girls volleyball team captured the Hall County Championships Saturday held at Chestatee High School.
The Lady Red Elephants came in as the No. 2 overall seed but held off No. 3 seed North Hall and No. 7 seed West Hall in championship bracket. The Lady Trojans finished second with West Hall taking third.
The tournament was split into three pools with the three winners meeting in the championship round. In the championships bracket, North Hall defeated West Hall 2-0. Gainesville beat North Hall 2-0 and rallied from a set down to beat West Hall 2-1 (26-28, 25-10, 15-9) to win the title.
In Pool play, Gainesville defeated Cherokee Bluff and East Hall to advance. North Hall beat Lanier Christian and Johnson to advance and West Hall shocked Chestatee and No. 1 seed Lakeview Academy to advance to the three-team round-robin.
For the Lady Red Elephants, Isabella Appling led the way with 19 kills, 8 aces, 3 assists, and 25 digs. Ansley Turner had 35 kills, 5 aces, 4 assists, and 21 digs, Camille Calkins added 13 kills, 2 aces, 8 blocks, and 7 digs, and Lauren Teasley had 18 kills and 6 blocks. Kassie Coley had 3 blocks and 6 digs, Kendal Glasper had 11 kills, 4 aces, 4 blocks, and 8 digs, Camille Holcomb added 17 assists and 8 digs, Isabella Garrish had 8 aces, 44 assists, and 14 digs, and Karlea Grace Langford had 32 digs for Gainesville. Margaret Embry and Lauren Ware combined for 9 digs and one kill along with stellar serve-receive and defensive play.
For West Hall, the Lady Spartans stunned Lakeview 25-17, 25-11 in the first match and held off Chestatee in three sets to advance to the championship round. West Hall fell to North Hall 25-20 and 25-23 and then Gainesville in three sets.
Cadie Shirley paced West Hall on defense with 38 digs and also added 25 kills and 11 aces. Kinsey Wilson had 36 kills and 25 digs and Chloe Radich had 48 assists.
