Softball: No. 2 Banks County, Branch pound out wins

MT. AIRY — Class 2A No. 2-ranked won its fourth straight game Wednesday with an 8-0 shutout of East Jackson in five innings at home.

Senior Tybee Denton got the win pitching a no-hitter, striking out 13, and walking only one batter as she faced just 16 batters. Denton also picked up her 1,000th career strike out in the second inning.

The Lady Leopards (21-3) also belted a pair of home runs. Denton had a first-inning blast while Jill Martinet had a long ball in the fourth inning.

 

BRANCH POUNDS OUT BIG WIN OVER HABERSHAM CENTRAL

Flowery Branch pounded out 20 hits in a 12-6 win over Habersham Central Wednesday in non-region action.

Freshman Nikki Harris got the win from the circle as the Lady Falcons improved to 17-7 on the season. Senior Abby Sherwood sparked the offense with 4 RBI. Sophomore Avery Thomas had a double and a triple and doubles by Amanda LeBlanc, Bretta Alexzulian, Rylee Rothschild, Abby Sherwood and Savannah Rutledge helped seal the win.

The Lady Falcons are off until next Tuesday when they open a Region 7-4A home-and-home series with Blessed Trinity at home. The two teams will meet in Roswell on Thursday to close out the regular seasons.
