WINDER — The Flowery Branch girls volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Thursday on the road.
The Lady Falcons, playing in a tri-match at Winder-Barrow, dropped the first match Buford 25-23, 25-8 and then lost to the host Lady Bulldoggs 25-15, 25-17 at the Winder-Barrow gym.
Sophomore right side Bri Hall had 1 kill and 2 blocks, freshman middle blocker Emma Witman had 2.5 blocks, and freshman setter Liza Thigpen had 13 assists and 3 kills and 1 ace for Flowery Branch. Senior outside hitter Katie Williams added 5 kills and 1 assists for the Lady Falcons.
Flowery Branch next will travel to Hebron Christian Academy on Tuesday.
LADY RED ELEPHANTS GET SWEEP AT JOHNSON
Gainesville improved to 21-4 on the season after a sweep of Johnson and Lanier Christian in Oakwood.
The Lady Red Elephants beat Johnson 25-13, 25-8 and held off Lanier Christian 25-22, 25-18 in the second match.
Gainesville will get back to region action on Tuesday at Dacula against Lanier and Winder-Barrow.
CHESTATEE, NORTH HALL SPLIT IN TRI-MATCH
Chestatee won 7 of the final 8 points to rally for a three-set win over Madison County Thursday, 25-16, 25-19, 15-13. In the 3rd set, the Lady War Eagles trailed 12-8 but battled back with aggressive plays at the net and huge defensive plays by Bowen Corley to seal the win. Outside and senior, Lindsay Bornhorst led the team offensively with 12 kills and sophomore middle Logan Wiggins contributed with 6 kills. Sophomore right side Bowen Corley led the team in digs with 10 and sophomore Lobero Ariana Hernandez had 9 digs.
Chestatee then fell to rival North Hall 25-11, 25-20 in another tight match.
