FLOWERY BRANCH — The Chestatee Lady War Eagles picked up two big road wins over Flowery Branch and White County in a tri-match Tuesday night.
Chestatee knocked off the Lady Falcons 2-1 and White County 2-0 to finish a strong night of competition and notching two Region 7-4A wins.
Chestatee 2, Flowery Branch 1
In a back-and-forth opening set battle, Chestatee nailed down the win 32-30. But Flowery Branch tied the match with a 27-25 set two win. In the final set, Chestatee walked away 15-9 to win the match.
Senior setter Maggie McNair executed a balanced offensive attack against the Lady Falcons with senior outside Lindsey Bornhorst leading the team with 11 kills. Sophomore libero Ariana Hernandez led the team with 11 digs followed by right side sophomore Bowen Corley with 7 digs.
Flowery Branch's senior middle blocker Sierra Lutz led the Lady Falcons with 2 kills and 2 blocks, Junior outside hitter Madi Sedwick had 6 aces and freshman setter Liza Thigpen finished the game with 19 assists, 5 aces, and 1 block.
The Falcons dropped their match against White County 11-25 and 18-25. Senior outside hitter Katie Williams had 6 kills and 1 block, and sophomore right-side hitter Bri Hall had 2 kills, 1 ace, and .5 block.
Chestatee 2, White County 0
The Lady War Eagles took control in this one, sweeping White County in straight sets to win the match and walk out of Flowery Branch with a perfect 2-0 day.
Chestatee beat White County 25-21 and 25-20.
Lindsey Bornhorst asserted herself dominating the court with 7 kills, followed by Chloe Riley and Logan Wiggins both contributing 4 kills each.
On the defensive side, the Lady War Eagles were led by senior Chloe Riley and sophomore Ariana Hernandez with both contributing 9 digs each. Bornhorst contributed 7 digs. At the service line, Bornhorst led the War Eagles with three aces; Riley and Corley following behind with 2.
Chestatee will play Stephens and Rabun counties on Thursday at home.
LCA sweeps Killian Hill Christian
The Lady Lightning put in a strong effort Tuesday night with a 25-12, 25-12, 25-18 victory, which kept them prefect in region play (8-6 overall, 2-0 in region).
Sophomore Brianna Moore had 15 assists along with 5 kills. Freshman Emma Kate Kalinauskus contributed 7 kills while sophomore Ashlyn Browning had a strong night with 4 aces, 4 kills, and 4 blocks.
-- In other volleyball action around the area, Gainesville fell to Habersham Central, 2-1 (25-21, 23-25, 15-4), and Applachee, 2-1 (21-25, 25-20, 15-9).
The Lady Red Elephants (15-5, 0-2) will play Tallulah Falls and Lumpkin County on Thursday at home. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
