Volleyball: GHS sweeps tri-match on the road

WINDER — The Gainesville volleyball team swept a pair of tough matches on Thursday in a tri-match at Winder-Barrow.

The Lady Red Elephants defeated host Winder-Barrow 2-0 (25-16, 25-19) and then rallied from a set down to knock off East Jackson 2-1 (17-25, 25-16, 15-10).

Isabella Garrish led the way for Gainesville with 5 aces, 18 assists, 15 digs, and 3 kills. Jay Maldonado added 2 aces, 21 digs, and 16 kills, Callie Patterson had 2 blocks and 8 kills, and Kerrigan Gruhn contributed with 10 digs and 12 kills for the Lady Red Elephants. 

Avery Lindsey added 2 aces, 9 assists, and 11 digs, Savannah Brock had 2 aces, 2 assists, and 4 digs, and Margaret Embry had 2 aces, 3 assists, and 17 digs. Abbey Council had 5 aces, 4 digs, and 2 blocks and Hannah Stewart finished with 2 digs, a block and a kill for Gainesville.

The Lady Red Elephants (17-13, 1-1 Region 6-7A) next play host to eight other teams on Saturday before resuming region play on Tuesday at North Forsyth.
