Fire destroys home outside Clarkesville

The cause of the fire that destroyed a Habersham County home Sunday afternoon remains under investigation.

At 2:04 p.m., Habersham County E-9-1-1 received a call reporting a structure fire on Ga. 17 North near Amy's Road.

The first arriving unit arrived five minutes later to find a single-wide modular home approximately 80 to 90% involved in fire, according to Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.

“Due to the structure already being a total loss, personnel took a defensive mode to extinguish the fire, utilizing hose lines from the exterior,” Black said.

Black said the occupant had been at a neighbor’s house and when he returned home found the structure on fire.

There were no injuries.

Units returned to service by 5 p.m.

Habersham County Engines 13 and 16, Battalion 1 and Captain 1 responded, along with Clarkesville Engine 3 and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department.
