GDOT awards bids for $4.7M in projects for Northeast Region

Road resurfacing, installation of rumble strips, bridge rehabilitation and pavement markings - all are new projects recently approved for roadways in the Georgia Department of Transportation's Northeast Region.

According to GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland, the four projects in question will cost $4.7 million; all should be complete by this time next year.

All four projects were advertised on April 16, bids were received on May 17 and the contracts were awarded on May 31. Public notification of the contracts was made this past week.

Strickland said the largest project awarded - in Habersham County - totaled $2.3 million and was awarded to Pittman Construction Company.

"The project will consist of resurfacing State Route 105 from north of State Route 385 to south of State Route 17," Strickland said. "The project will extend for roughly nine miles and has an estimated completion date of April 2020."

The second largest project totaled $1.1 million and was awarded to Peek Pavement Marking, LLC, according to Strickland. The company will upgrade rumble strips across Barrow, Clarke, Dawson, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson and Walton counties. Rumble strips are raised strips along the road or its edge that warn drivers of speed restrictions or that they have driven onto the edge of the road. The project has an estimated completion date of June, 2020.

Another $1.1 million project for bridge rehabilitation was awarded to S&D Industrial Painting and Southern Concrete Construction Co., LLC.

"The project involves the rehabilitation of two bridges in Habersham County: the US 23/State Route 365 bridge over Wilbanks Road and the US 23/State Route 365 bridge over the Tallulah River," Strickland said.  The bridge project should be finished in February 2020.

Finally, the state will spend $314,365.50 to upgrade pavement markings along I-85 from north of State Route 53 to the Banks County line. The project stretches approximately 19 miles and has an estimated completion date of April 2020. Southern States Pavement Markings, LLC will be responsible for that project, according to Strickland.
