Construction to install a Reduced Conflict U-turn and U-turn configuration is underway on the intersection of US 441 and SR 326 on Old Carnesville Rd. in Jackson County.

According to a release from the Georgia Department of Transportation, the project, which began on March 4, aims to improve traffic flow and reduce crash severity on the roadway.  Construction is expected to be completed by July 31.

“This intersection has been identified as a high-risk location with a history of severe vehicle crashes,” GDOT said. “By implementing the RCUT design, GDOT aims to significantly reduce the number of conflict points and eliminate dangerous left turns and cross-traffic movements.”

The department highlighted that RCUTs enhance safety by directing side-street traffic followed by U-turns at designated locations. The configuration will reduce the likelihood of head-on collisions, which are typically the most severe vehicle accidents.

While construction is ongoing, motorists in the area are advised to use caution and observe signs posted throughout the construction period.
