Gainesville business owner arrested for violating state sex offender law

By B.J. Williams

The owner of a business on the downtown Gainesville square has been arrested for violation of the Georgia Sex Offender Law, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

Cpl. Jessica Van said Endrick Torres, 39, of Barrow County was arrested Tuesday, June 18.

"With the business partners that we have downtown, the information was brought to our attention from the community themselves," Van said. "When the information was told to use, we immediately began investigating and officers were able to obtain warrants for his arrest."

Torres owned and operated Love Is All You Knead, an ice cream and doughnut shop located inside Main Street Market in downtown Gainesville. The business is in a location "within 1,000 ft. of a child learning facility and/or an area where minors congregate" in violation of conditions of the Georgia Sex Offender Law.

Van said the business has been closed.

Van said the charges against Torres were levied out of state, but Gainesville police are investigating to determine if any local crimes have occurred.

Torres also was charged with forgery for using a false or fictitious name to operate the business.

At last report, Torres remained at the Hall County Jail.
