By B.J. Williams

A Commerce man will face charges after allegedly stabbing a 41-year-old man several times early Monday morning during an altercation at Gainesville Marina on Dawsonville Highway.

Derreck Booth, spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff's Office, said deputies were called to the scene at 3:40 a.m..

"Hall County Fire Services personnel responded and transported the stabbing victim to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment," Booth said.

He identified the other man involved in the incident as Damon Wesley Walker, 26, and Booth said he left the scene in a car.

"Roughly ten minutes after the initial call, Gainesville Police Department Officers stopped the suspect car at a location off of Industrial Boulevard," Booth said. "The occupants of the car, a man and woman, were detained as persons of interest in the case."

Booth said Walker was found to have non-life threatening injuries; he was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.

At this point, the names of the victim has not been released but Booth says he's in stable condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Walker faces charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

Booth said the Gainesville Fire Department also responded to the initial call.

Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the incident that remains under investigation.
