The father of a University of Georgia student who was shot near campus during a robbery attempt says his son is recovering after suffering gunshot wounds to his head and neck area.
Dobbin Prezzano said at a news conference on Tuesday that his son, Tate, was getting good rest after the shooting a day earlier.
Authorities say they arrested 20-year-old Zarren Garner on suspicion of armed robbery and aggravated assault. Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Geoffrey Gilland says Garner robbed someone of a cellphone before attempting to rob Tate Prezzano at a nearby bus stop.
The shooting occurred just after 7:15 a.m. at the bus stop on South Milledge Avenue in Athens.
Jail records don't indicate whether Garner has an attorney.
Police Chief Cleveland Spruill said a sketch of the suspect helped generate tips from the public that led authorities to Gwinnett County, where Garner was arrested.
