AOW: Estes helps lead Lions to perfect Region 8-A record

By Bo Wilson | Video by Seth Chapman

GAINESVILLE — The Lakeview baseball team heads into the final week of the regular season with one thing in mind — a Region 8-A title.

The Lions can seal the title for sure with two wins this week — Towns County, Hebron Christian and Athens Academy are on the schedule.

Last week, the Lions beat Athens Christian to take sole possession of the region lead and junior Andrew Estes was a big part of the Lions' success.

In two games, he was 7-for-9 at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs. He also pitched the Lions to victory over Athens Christian, going five innings and striking out six.

His season stats are even more impressive. The junior is batting .486 with 15 RBIs and has scored 29 runs and, on the mound, he boasts a 1.25 earned run average with 40 Ks and eight walks in 33-2/3 innings of work.

For those reasons, Estes has been named this week’s Conditioned Air Systems Athlete of the Week.
