The Georgia State Patrol has released preliminary details of a wreck that injured three people north of Batesville Saturday morning.
“On March 30 at approximately 10:48, troopers from Post 7 Toccoa responded to a two-vehicle crash in Habersham County,” said Sgt. Casey Coffee, assistant post commander. “The crash occurred on Ga. 197, south of Bobby Brooks Road.”
A 2012 Toyota Highlander driven by Robert Rowan, 75, of Clarkesville was traveling north on Ga. 197 and the driver failed to maintain his lane and crossed the centerline, striking an oncoming vehicle head-on, according to Coffee.
That other vehicle, a 2010 Toyota Camry driven by Patrick Godwin, 39, of Pensacola, Fla., was traveling south on Ga. 197, according to Coffee.
Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black said first arriving units found a total of three patients, with two of those still trapped inside the vehicles. Medics 9 and 16 transported patients to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Medic 1 transported its patient to a designated landing zone, where the Air Life Georgia medical helicopter took over patient care and continued transport to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Coffee identified the patient flown as Godwin, the driver of the Toyota Camry. He said Rowan, who was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, is charged with failure to maintain lane.
Amber Krystine Horton, 34, of Pensacola, Fla., the passenger in the Camry was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
“Two patients were rapidly taken to surgery with serious to critical injuries upon arrival at the hospital,” Black said. “One patient required extensive and lengthy extrication due to the seriousness of the impact from the accident.”
Bobby Brooks Road is located just south of the Rabun County line.
