Senate approves legislation for additional Gwinnett judgeship

By AccessWDUN Staff
Under a measure passed in the State Senate Thursday, Gwinnett County will get an additional Superior Court judge in 2020.

House Bill 21 provides for an 11th judge for Gwinnett's Superior Court bench.

According to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Senate rejected a Democratic amendment that would have allowed voters to fill the post in January. Instead, Gov. Brian Kemp will make the initial appointment, and then voters will elect a judge for a full four-year term in 2022.

The bill passed the Senate with a vote of 52-1.
