CLEVELAND — The Lanier Christian Academy girls basketball team finished as the GICAA Division II-AA state runner-up as dropping a close 41-38 loss to Fideles Christian School in the finals Saturday at Truett McConnell University.
FCS opened the gam with a 16-8 first quarter and the Lady Lightning played catch up the rest of the way. The game went to the intermission with LCA trailing 26-18.
The Lady Lightning (17-8) trimmed the lead to 34-27 heading into the fourth quarter. LCA outscoed FCS 11-7 in the final period but could not grab the lead.
LCA coach Doug Wasden said despite the loss they are optimistic moving forward.
“The team has no seniors and has a bright future," he said. "They were the first region champions and had the best record in school history.”
Faith Wasden led the way for LCA with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. Madison Hughes had 6 points and 10 rebounds, Reece Montgomery had 6 points and 10 rebounds, and Lexie Robertson, Hollie Beussee, and Ashley Avery had 4 points each. Loganne Wilson and Lily Martin had 2 points for the Lady Lightning.
