A Gainesville Police Department officer is recovering from a head injury after a suspect allegedly assaulted him while being taken into custody.
Officer Stephen Lucius, 42, is said to have a suffered multiple strikes to the head with handcuffs by Eric Pitts, 37, during a February 16 arrest at a location on Jesse Jewell Parkway. The officer sustained a laceration to his head.
A statement from department officials said Pitts was ultimately arrested by fellow officer Allison Lathem.
Pitts is charged with felony aggravated assault, felony terroristic threats and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
