More than a dozen northeast Georgia area basketball teams are left standing after the opening round of the Georgia High School Association playoffs.
In fact, 15 teams -- 9 girls and 6 boys -- spanning six classifications will be in action when the second round gets underway on Wednesday.

The Gainesville boys pulled the most thrilling, and perhaps the biggest win in the first round, knocking off two-time defending Class 6A state champion Langston Hughes. The Red Elephants now will travel to Region 7-6A champion Cambridge on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the West Hall boys pulled the biggest upset of the first round. The Spartans, the No. 4 seed from Region 7-4A, took down Region 6-4A champion Southeast Whitfield and now will head to Cartersville on Thursday.
The North Hall girls travel to Hart County on Wednesday (6 p.m. tip-off) and you can hear that game with Bo Wilson and Caleb Hutchins on WDUN AM 550/102.9 FM and on streaming on AccessWDUN beginning at 5:50 p.m.
The Riverside Military Academy and Lakeview Academy boys and girls teams will see their first action of the playoffs in the second after receiving first-round byes in Class A Private. The Lions will hold a doubleheader on Thursday with the girls taking on Darlington and the boys hosting North Cobb Christian. Riverside will play host to Walker on Wednesday.
Perennial playoff teams like the Buford boys and girls, the Flowery Branch girls, and the Rabun County girls all advanced with big wins in the first round and will be in action on Wednesday and/or Thursday.
