HARTWELL — The East Jackson girls advanced to their first-ever state playoffs with an impressive 64-42 win over Franklin County in the opening round of the Region 8-3A tournament Tuesday.
The Lady Eagles ran out to a 17-2 lead to open the game and never looked back. The took a 29-13 into the intermission.
Haven Rollins poured in 26 points to pace East Jackson. Kenzie Whitehead added 16 points and Maurissa Thomas had 9 for the Lady Eagles.
East Jackson girls next will face 8-3A top seed Jefferson at 7 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals at Hart County High School.

The Lady Leopards punched their ticket to the Class 2A state playoffs with a blowout win over Social Circle Tuesday night at Elbert County.
Banks County (22-5) advanced to the semifinals of the Region 8-2A tournament with the win.
Heather Vaughan was the top scorer for the Lady Leopards with 21 points. Kailynn Gilstrap tossed in 11 points and Jaycie Bowen chipped in 9.
Banks County will play Elbert County Thursday at Elbert. Tip is 4 p.m.

Union kept it close but couldn't push past Monticello in the first round of the Region 8-2A tournament at Elbert County Tuesday night.
Katie McCarter led the Lady Panthers (14-11) with 20 points. Ava Hunter added 17.

The Lady Tigers (15-10) advanced to the semifinals of the Region 8-A tournament with a win over Towns County Tuesday night at home.
Commerce will play the winner of No. 1 Lakeview vs. No. 8 George Walton on Friday at home. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Lady Lightning used a huge second half to pull away for a region tournament win Tuesday night.
The two teams were 10-10 after the first quarter and King's Academy led 21-18 at halftime. But LCA exploded out of the intermission.
LCA outscored King's Academy 16-5 in the third quarter and 8-3 in the fourth quarter to rally for the victory.
Faith Wasden had 8 points and 6 steals and Madison Hughes had 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 steals for the Lady Lightning.
