Girls basketball playoffs: Chestatee, White County advance in 7-4A

ATLANTA — Chestatee advanced to the Class 4A state tournament with a 48-27 win over Blessed Trinity Monday night in the first round of Region 7-4A tournament at Marist High School.

The Lady War Eagles (14-12) were led by Christina Garcia with 14 points. Maggie McNair had 12 points and Beth Eddins 10 for Chestatee. It was the third win of the season for Chestatee over the Lady Titans. However, the first two games were decided by three total points.

Chestatee coach Sutton Shirley said his group just wasn't ready to let things end.

"We played 4 complete quarters, and I’m excited for the girls to extend our season at least three more games," Shirley said. "This is a fun group of kids and I wasn’t ready for it to be over yet. The whole team did a very good job of executing the defensive gameplan. Emma Easterwood and Bowen Corley had...a big...impact on the game, guarding Blessed Trinity’s best player."

Chestatee moves on to play No. 1 seed Flowery Branch (22-3) who beat the Lady War Eagles twice in the regular season by 29 points and 23 points, at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the semifinals at Chestatee.

 

WHITE COUNTY 62,
WEST HALL 36

The Lady Warriors advanced to the Class 4A state tournament for a second straight season with a win over the Lady Spartans in the first round of Region 7-4A Tournament.
 
White County led just 9-5 after the first quarter but was able to push its lead to 29-18 by halftime and maintained a 41-30 lead heading into the fouth quarter. The Lady Warriors put it away with a 21-6 run in the final period.
 
A key stat was White County draining 7 3-pointers for the game to none for West Hall.
 
Dasha Cannon led 10 White County scorers with 19 points. Bentley Cronic added 14 for the Lady Warriors.
 
Bentley Cronic led West Hall with 18 points.
 
White County next will face the Denmark-Marist winner on Thursday. 

 

MONROE AREA 55,
JACKSON COUNTY 48

The Lady Pathers saw their season come to an end Monday in the opening round of the Region 8-3A tournament.

Jackson County finished the season 5-21.
