Girls basketball: Branch, White County take 7-4A wins; EHall wins, NHall falls in 7-3A; GHS, Buford, Rabun get wins; LCA falls

ROSWELL — The Flowery Branch girls stayed perfect in Region 7-4A with a solid 44-35 road win over Blessed Trinity Tuesday night.

The Falcons (6-4, 3-0 Region 7-4A) jumped out toa 20-6 lead after the first quarter and then held off a second half charge by the Titans (4-6, 0-3 Region 7-4A). The Branch led 26-15 at halftime but Blessed Trinity trimmed the lead to 39-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

Ashlee Locke paced the Falcons with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Keidra Young added 16 points for Flowery Branch.

 

EAST HALL 55, 
CHEROKEE BLUFF 48

The Vikings won their second straight game, both in Region 7-3A play, after a four-game losing streak to open the season. It also marked coach Justin Wheeler’s 100th career win.

However, East Hall needed overtime after letting a seven-point lead slip away in the final minutes.

The Bears’ Madi Phillips hit a pair of free throws to send it to the extra frame. But those would be the final points for Cherokee Bluff (2-7, 0-2 Region 7-3A).

East Hall (2-4, 2-1 Region 7-3A) outscored Cherokee 7-0 in the overtime period.

Alexis Burce led East Hall with 16 points and 7 assists..

The Bears will travel to Fannin County in Friday in another Region 7-3A contest.

East Hall hits the road at Johnson on Friday.

 

WHITE COUNTY 79
WEST HALL 44

The Warriors used a huge second quarter to open a big lead and then rolled to a key win on the road.
 
White County (4-5, 2-1 Region 7-4A) led just 15-10 after the first quarter but exploded for a 32-8 second quarter run to take a 47-18 lead by halftime. They cruised in the second half
 
The Spartans (2-6, 0-2 Region 7-4A) lost for the fifth straight time.
 
Bentley Cronic paced White County with 22 points. Maddie Futch had 11 points as 11 different players scored for the Warriors. 
 
Kinsey Wilson led West Hall with 24 points and Riley Harkin added 8 for the Spartans..

West Hall next will play host to Chestatee on Friday in another region battle.
 
White County will play host to Habersham Central on Friday.
 

GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN 73
NORTH HALL 66

The North Hall girls dropped their first Region 7-3A game of the season as GAC rallied in the fourth quarter the win at the North Hall gym.

The Trojans (5-3, 2-1 Region 7-3A) battled back from a 35-30 halftime deficit using a 25-18 third quarter to grab a 55-53 lead heading into the fourth quarter. But they could not hold on as the Spartans (4-7, 2-0 Region 7-3A) outscored North Hall 20-11 over the final eight minutes to steal the win.

Grace Hollifield had a monster game for North Hall with 26 points. Lauren Swanson added 17 points and Rylee McCall 10 points for the Trojans.

North Hall next will travel to Dawson County on Friday.

 

BUFORD 47
HOLY INNOCENTS 44

Class 5A No. 1 Buford rallied from an 18-point first half deficit to stay unbeaten with a victory on the road.

The Wolves (9-0) chipped away until grabbing the final lead for good late in the fourth quarter.

Tate Walters scored 13 points to lead the Wolves (9-0). Tatum Ozment and Katelyn Klein each had 9 points for Buford. 

 

GAINESVILLE 57
WALNUT GROVE 23

The Red Elephants snapped a two-game losing streak with an impressive road win on Tuesday.

Gainesville started strong with a 15-2 run to open the game. The Red Elephants extended their lead to 33-15 by halftime. An 11-2 third quarter run put the game totally out of reach.

Nine players scored for Gainesville (2-4) led by Lauren Teasley's 17 points.Freshman McKayla Walden added 12 points and freshman KeKe Jones had 8 points for the Red Elephants.

Gainesville next will play host to St. Pius on Friday.

 

WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 58
LANIER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 34

The Lightning was outscored 24-2 in the first quarter and never recovered in taking a loss at home.

LCA (5-2) trailed 38-14 at halftime and 55-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

Sallie Schutz had 32 points to lead Westminster.

Reece Montgomery paced LCA with 7 points. Ashley Avery added 6 points and Hollie Beussee and Lexie Robertson had 5 points apiece for the Lightning.

 

RABUN COUNTY 71
STEPHENS COUNTY 63

Gracie Deetz had 16 points and Laken Stiles 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists to lead the Wildcats to a win at home.

Destiny Deetz added 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 blocks and Hanna Cannon also knocked down 9 points for Rabun County (6-0).
