Girls basketball: Trojans roll past EHall; Jefferson, Chestatee, Lumpkin, Dawson, Branch, LCA all get wins

RABBITTOWN — Lauren Swanson's 19 points helped North Hall to a 49-33 win over East Hall in the Region 7-3A opener Tuesday night at Valhalla. 

Swanson poured in 10 of the 19 points in the first half, lead the Trojans to a 22-19 lead at the break. 

The Trojans took control in the third quarter behind the play of Maci Gillespie, who finished with 14 points, Grace Hollifield, Sophie Cleveland, Swanson and Ansley Smallwood. North Hall outpaced East Hall 15-8 in the period and held the Vikings to just 6 points in the final eight minutes. 

Alexis Burce led the Vikings with 14 points, and Maleah Harrison had 8. 


JEFFERSON 68,
MONROE AREA 28

Class 3A No. 2-ranked Jefferson rolled to a Region 8-3A opening win Tuesday night at The Arena.

Jefferson (9-0, 1-0 Region 8-3A) was paced by Livi Blackstock’s 19 points. Deshona Gaither added 12 points and Jyesha Butts 10 points for the Dragons.

Monroe Area (5-4, 0-1) had a two-game win streak snapped with the loss.


LANIER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 39,
TRINITY CHRISTIAN 34

The Lightning used a 12-8 first quarter to take the lead and then held of several challenges by Trinity to hold on for the win.
 
LCA stayed unbeaten at 4-0 with the victory.
 
Trinity trimmed the lead to 22-21 by halftime and it was a defensive battle the entire second half as LCA outscored Trinity just 18-13 to slowly pull away down the stretch.
 
Faith Wasden had a huge game for the Lightning with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block. Reece Montgomery just missed on a double-double with 8 points and 14 rebounds and added 4 assists and 4 steals. Ashley Avery added 6 points and 9 rebounds, Lexie Robertson had 3 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists, and Hollie Beussee had 7 steals for LCA.

Gracie Jones (16) and Autumn Bone (14) combined for 30 points to pace Trinity Christian.

LCA will be back in action on Friday playing host to Bethlehem Christian Academy.


CHESTATEE 64,
DENMARK 42

Maggie McNair scored a team-high 24 points and Logan Wiggins had 18 to lead the War Eagles past Denmark at home on Tuesday.

Emma Easterwood scored 10 and Bowen Corley netted 8.

The War Eagles (3-2, 1-0 Region 7-4A) will play host to Flowery Branch on Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.


LUMPKIN COUNTY 54,
CHEROKEE BLUFF 42

Isabel Davenport scored 18 of her 21 points from 3-point range in the Indians' win over Cherokee Bluff on Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

Timber Gaither led the Bears with 11 points. 

Lumpkin held off a charge by The Bluff in the third quarter, holding the Bears to just two baskets in the final period. 

Lexi Pierce scored 14 points, Kate Jackson hit for 11 and MaKenzie Caldwell chipped in 7 for the Indians. 

Madi Phillips and Alexis Mize scored 8 each for the Bears.


DAWSON COUNTY 54,
FANNIN COUNTY 49

The Tigers went on a 12-2 run to rally and take the lead for good in a too-close-for-comfort win over Fannin County in the Region 7-3A opener at the Ford Phillips Center.

Trailing after three quarters, 36-35 and 41-39 with 5:32 to go in the game, the Tigers rallied in the fourth quarter behind the play of Sophia D'Oliverira (15 points) and Marlie Townley 12 points.

Mariah Benson chipped in 9 points and Kirklyn Porter hit 8.

The Tigers (4-3, 1-0 Region 7-3A) will travel to GAC on Thursday. Game time is set for 6 p.m.


ST. FRANCIS 81,
LAKEVIEW 42

Joelle Snyder scored 14 points in Lakeview's loss on the road to St. Francis.

Eliza Snyder turned in a double-double performance with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jackie Allen had 8 points and 5 boards and Maddy Towles had 6 points. 

The Lions (4-4) will play host to Athens Academy on Monday at 6 p.m.


FLOWERY BRANCH 57,
WEST HALL 43

The Falcons outscored West Hall 24-6 in the fourth quarter in a come-from-behind win in the Region 7-4A opener on Tuesday in Oakwood.

After falling behind 22-11 in the first, West Hall found its rhythm in the second quarter. The Spartans held The Branch to just three points in the second period, while tossing in 13 points to go in down one point at the half. 

In the third quarter, Kinsey Wilson and Riley Harkin -- both finished with 15 points -- led the Spartans' charge to the lead, 38-33, after three quarters. 

Ashlee Locked led the Falcons with 19 points and Shaina Kriews had 12 points.
