DAWSONVILLE — The Dawson County girls picked up their first win of the season Saturday with a solid 72-53 win over Class 6A Alpharetta at home.
The Tigers (1-1) used a huge second and third quarter blitz to blow open a close game. Dawson County led just 13-12 after the opening period but exploded for a 24-point second quarter to take a 37-22 halftime lead. They backed that up with a 20-6 third quarter run for 57-28 lead.
Nine different players scored for Dawson County, led by freshman Kriklyn Porter, who had 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Marlie Townley and Sophia D'Oliveira each had 13 points and Maddie Anglin 11 for the Tigers.
Dawson County next will head to Flowery Branch on Tuesday in a battle of ranked teams.

Joelle Snyder poured in a career-high 40 points to lead the Lions as they pushed the Class 7A Hornets at home on Saturday.
Roswell (2-0) opened the game with a 26-14 blitz of Lakeview (1-1) and never trailed again. However, the Lions outscored the Hornets 48-46 the rest of the way.
Lakeview pulled within 34-27 by halftime but Roswell extended its lead to 58-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
Jackie Allen had 11 points and 7 steals for Lakeview. But senior Eliza Snyder was held to just 9 points. Eliza Snyder did grab 5 rebounds and dish out 4 assists. Maddy Towles pulled down 5 rebounds for the Lions.
Lakeview will be back in action on Tuesday against Johnson at home.
