Softball playoffs: Buford, Commerce see runs come to an end in Columbus

COLUMBUS — Buford in the Class 5A state softball tournament and Commerce in Class A Public both saw their bids for a state title come to an end Saturday at the Olympic Softball Complex.

The Lady Woles fell 1-0 to Harris County in the semifinals. It was a rematch of Thursday's tournament opener for both teams. In the first game Buford took a 1-0 win on a no-hitter by Ansleigh Hollifield.

The loss gave the Lady Wolves a fourth place finish for the 2019 season.

In other action on Saturday, Commerce fell 9-6 to Trion in the Class A Public semifinals. The Lady Tigers finished third with the loss.

And in Class 2A, No. 1-ranked Banks County already has advanced to the championship series for a second straight season. The Lady Leopards, who finished second in 2018, are taking on Bremen in the championship series.

Banks County defeated Bremen 6-0 on Thursday in their tournament opener.
