GDOT: I-85 widening project brings lane shifts this week

By AccessWDUN Staff

As the I-85 widening project continues in North Georgia, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has planned lane shifts for the overnight hours this week.

Weather permitting, the lane shifts will occur through Friday night between SR 53 and the Mulberry River Bridge in Braselton

GDOT officials said the southbound lane shifts are planned for Wednesday night and northbound lane shifts will happen on Thursday and Friday nights. The hours for the change will be 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

According to GDOT, the I-85 widening project is the first of the initial 11 Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP) projects to start construction.  The project should provide relief to motorists in along the heavily congested corridor by widening I-85 from two to three lanes in both directions from I-985 to SR 53 in Gwinnett, Barrow and Jackson counties.
