BETHLEHEM — The Gainesville girls volleyball team finished second in the Region 8-6A tournament Saturday at Apalachee High School.,
Gainesville had a slow start dropping the first set against Apalachee in the semifinals, 25-16, but rebounded winning the next two sets, 25-15 and 15-11 to earn the win and advance to the championship match.
The finals would be a rematch with the Lady Wikdcats but this time the Lady Red Elephants won the opening game 25-23. Apalachee, however, rallied to win the next three sets 33-31, 25-18, and 25-23 to take tyhe title.
Isabella Appling had 10 kills, 21 digs, 4 aces, Karlea Grace Langford added 22 digs and 2 aces, and Ansley Turner helped with 18 kills, 7 digs, and 2 blocks for Gainesville.. Isabella Garrish delivered 28 assists, 14 digs, and 3 aces, Camille Holcomb had 7 digs and 17 assists, Abigail Linhart added 2 digs, 6 assists, and 4 aces, and Kassie Coley had 4 kills and a dig for Gainesville. Kendal Glasper contributed 10 kills, 2 digs, and 3 blocks, Lauren Teasley added 17 kills and 6 blocks, Camille Calkins had 10 kills, 6 digs, an ace, and 2 blocks, and Margaret Embry had a dig.
Isabella Appling, Camille Calkins, and Ansley Turner were named to the 8-6A All-Region team.
