An investigation continues into a deadly shooting at a dermatology office in Gainesville.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working on updated details of the case, but the Gainesville Police Department has discussed some of the preliminary facts of the incident.
Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said the incident unfolded around 11 a.m. Monday when Hall County 911 received a call alerting police to a gunman at Lanier Dermatology at 605 South Enota Drive. Patrol officers arrived at the office and found the gunman holding hostages inside.
"He brandished a firearm at which point shots were fired and he was struck numerous times," Holbrook said. "He was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased."
Holbrook did not identify the apparent gunman, saying only that he was an adult male.
Two officers on the scene were taken to the hospital for observation, but Holbrook said they were checked out and later returned to the scene to assist with the investigation.
He said no one inside the office was physically hurt, but they were emotionally shaken by the incident.
At this point, there is no known motive for the gunman's actions.
