A Gainesville woman was killed and her two passengers were seriously hurt following two separate but related traffic accidents on Queen City Parkway.
Gainesville Police Department investigators said the initial accident was reported around 12:10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.
In the initial accident, Irlanda Vargas, 22, was driving her car southbound on Queen City Parkway. She attempted a left turn on West Ridge Road, but she reportedly failed to yield and struck a northbound pickup truck. The truck overturned and Vargas' car was disabled in the intersection. Police said minutes later a northbound 18-wheeler came upon the intersection and struck Vargas' car.
Vargas and her two passengers were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious injuries. Vargas died at the hospital, according to police.
The names and the conditions of the two passengers were not released.
Police did not say if the occupants of the other vehicles were injured.
No charges are expected at this point in the investigation.
