Update: Subject of SWAT standoff facing serious charges

Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said Hollis Dean Garman is facing several charges after a standoff with SWAT officers Thursday evening.

"He's charged with battery under the Family Violence Act - also possession of a firearm while committing a felony, possession of methamphetamine and obstruction of law enforcement," Jarrard said after the incident.

Jarrard said Garman's girlfriend Sonja Pace has been charged with hindering apprehension of a fugitive.

Jarrard said the incident unfolded as deputies were attempting to arrest Garman for probation violation. As officer approached, Garman holed up the home on Oak Grove Road Thursday evening.

Garman was taken into custody just before 7 p.m.

He was wanted from Forsyth County on a violation of probation warrant, according to the sheriff.
