UPDATE:

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Thursday morning the man shot by Forsyth County Sheriff's Office deputies died as a result of his wounds. The GBI plans to release more information in the coming hours.

ORIGINAL STORY (7:05 a.m.):

One man has been arrested and another has been shot and wounded during an altercation with Forsyth County Sheriff's Office deputies.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Cpl. Doug Rainwater said authorities were called to Grand Prix Street Wednesday night around 10:30 to investigate a report of two men fighting in the street.

He said one of the suspects was arrested right away, but the other man went inside a house and refused to come out.

"At that point, we called our Crisis Negotiation Team in along with our SWAT team and for a period of about two hours, they attempted to negotiate with this male [subject]," Rainwater said.

Rainwater said the man, who was armed, would exit the house from time to time and then quickly go back inside.

"Eventually, he did come out holding a handgun and a shotgun and confronted our deputies on the outside at which time our deputies shot this male," Rainwater said. "He was transported to an area hospital."
The condition of the man who was shot is unknown.

Rainwater indicated several deputies were involved in the shooting. All have been placed on paid administrative leave for now.

Rainwater said he did not know how the two men might have known each other. He also said he was unaware of why the two were fighting.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation.

Grand Prix Street is located off Pilgrim Mill Road in northeastern Forsyth County.
