Hall County is getting closer to finding its next fire chief, officials say.
County Administrator Jock Connell said after Thursday's Hall County Commission voting session that the county has narrowed its search from a pool of 50 candidates down to six. He said those interviews will start next week.
"Keep in mind, when you start interviewing six people at three hours an interview, it's going to take us most of next week," Connell said.
The county's previous chief, Jeff Hood, resigned last October. Mark Arnold has served as interim.
Connell said he hopes to have the new chief named sometime in the middle of September.
"In an ideal world, that's when we'd like to have an offer and acceptance. Whether they could be here by then is doubtful," Connell said.
He did not disclose the names of any of the county's candidates.
