Hall County to consider rezoning, potential red light at Thompson Bridge Road-Hubert Stephens Road

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The Hall County Commission will vote Thursday on multiple items pertaining to a planned expansion of Fieldale Farms' plant on Thompson Bridge Road in Murrayville.

Fieldale is looking to expand its plant to some property north of its existing building and needs to rezone that land from Agricultural-Residential-III and Highway Business to Planned Industrial Development. That rezoning request will be voted on after a public hearing at the commission's Thursday voting session.

The commission will also vote on a proposed traffic signal for the intersection of Thompson Bridge Road and Hubert Stephens Road, an intersection which would sit just outside Fieldale's new construction if the rezoning request is approved. Hall County Public Works Director Ken Rearden said the Georgia Department of Transportation has requested the county the install the signal, which he said would not be a traditional red, yellow and green light.

"GDOT did do a traffic signal warrant analysis. It did not warrant a signal. This is for a flashing, signalized flashing signal there. It'll be amber on State Route 60 (Thompson Bridge Road) and red on the driveway to Fieldale and Hubert Stephens," Rearden said.

The intersection currently features a stop sign on Hubert Stephens Road with center turn lanes on Thompson Bridge Road. The Hall County Commission placed the request for the signal on Thursday's consent agenda.
