50 firefighters battle blaze at Gwinnett trampoline park

By B.J. Williams

A newly-opened trampoline park in Duluth was heavily damaged by fire Monday night, according to the Gwinnett County Fire Department.

Spokesman Justin Wilson said crews were called to Sky Walker Trampoline Park on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth at 9:15 p.m.

"The caller to 9-1-1 reported a trampoline on fire and everyone exiting the building. Smoke and flames were reported being visible from the front of the business," Wilson wrote in a press statement.

Wilson said firefighters reported heavy smoke pouring from the building when they arrived on scene.

"Fire sprinklers were activated inside the business and a fire engine was utilized to boost the pressure to the system. Zero visibility and the large layout made firefighting efforts difficult, but the fire was brought under control without spreading to other occupancies," Wilson said.

Wilson said 50 firefighters were deployed to the scene to fight the fire.

The trampoline park, which had just opened for business over the weekend, was open for extended spring break hours. An employee at the scene told firefighters there were five employees and 15 patrons inside the business when smoke began pouring from an air bag platform.

One woman received minor injuries not directly related to the fire, according to Wilson.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
