A fire that destroyed three vehicles and damaged others behind a Norcross business is believed to be an act of arson, according to the Gwinnett County Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to C&D Auto Performance on Jimmy Carter Blvd. around 12:35 a.m., Friday, Aug. 14.
"Firefighters arrived to find two sedans and a box truck engulfed in flames," said Capt. Tommy Rutledge in an email statement. "Crews obtained a positive water supply from a nearby hydrant and deployed a fire attack hose line to extinguish the blaze. The fire destroyed all three vehicles and caused moderate cosmetic damage to three additional vehicles parked in close proximity."
Rutledge said the automotive shop was closed at the time of the fire and no one was at the business when fire crews arrived.
"There was no indication of an engine compartment fire in any of the vehicles and no other reason for the fire to have ignited," Rutledge said.
He said the fire investigator believes one or more suspects gained unlawful access to the property and intentionally set fire to the vehicles.
