The changes to the intersection of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Sawmill Drive are now permanent, Suwanee officials confirmed.
Georgia Department of Transportation Crews have installed a permanent median at the intersection, closing left-turn access to and from Sawmill Drive, said Marty Allen, Suwanee city manager.
The intersection was first closed in October 2017 in order to conduct a study on the changes, with the notion that it could become permanent. Crews disabled the traffic signals and put up traffic barrels to keep cars from turning left at the intersection.
Now that the changes are indeed here to stay, drivers headed east on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road will have a longer turn lane to access I-85 northbound.
Should they want to access Sawmill Drive, however, that will have to be done via Satellite Boulevard or Smithtown Road.
