VIDEO: Buford boys set to begin defense of their state crown tonight

BUFORD — This time last year, Buford knew it had championship potential.

Now, the Wolves are looking to make good on that for the second time in a row.

The Buford boys basketball team claimed its first ever state crown last season, storming to a Class AAAAA title. And with four starters back from that team, the Wolves (23-4) have continued to impress for much of the 2017-18 campaign.

Even so, Buford coach Eddie Martin says that means little now that the marathon of the regular season has become the sprint of the state bracket, and that his Wolves cannot rest on laurels at any time in the postseason.

Even as a No. 1 seed, Buford knows it faces an intriguing task tonight against a fourth-seeded Cass (17-11) team that prefers to slow the pace and possibly frustrate a Wolves squad more happy flying down the court.
