Girls basketball: Dawson holds off Lumpkin in OT; Lakeview, West Hall, Rabun get wins; GHS falls

DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to hold off rival Lumpkin County 58-55 in overtime Tuesday in a big Region 7-3A battle for both squads.

The Lady Tigers (7-3, 3-1 Region 7-3A) hit 8-of-11 free throws in the overtime period while the Lady Indians (10-4, 2-4 Region 7-3A) were just 6-of-14 in the overtime from the line and missed eight free throws in the fourth quarter and overtime.

The two teams were tied at 13 after the first quarter with Dawson County taking a 30-26 lead into halftime. Lumpkin County, however, used a 14-9 third quarter to grab a 40-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

Kaylee Sticker knocked down 20 points, including five free throws in the overtime period, to lead Dawson County to the win. Anna Lowe added 11 points and Ella Siuta 10 for the Lady Tigers.

Mackenzie Pulley led Lumpkin County with 22 points. Isabel Davenport had 13 points for the Lady Indians.

 

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 54
RABUN GAP 44

The Lakeview Academy girls ran their win streak to six straight with a 54-44 win over Rabun Gap Tuesday night at home.

Jo Snyder led the way with 14 points while Savannah Kinsey added 11 points and 6 rebounds for Lakeview (7-2). Jackie Allen had 10 points and 6 assists; Sadie Thrailkill had 6 points and 10 rebounds, and Eliza Snyder 9 points for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview next will take on Loganville Christian Academy on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Providence Christmas Classic.

 

WEST HALL 50
DENMARK 31

Kinsey Wilson recorded her sixth double-double of the season to lead the Lady Spartans to their first Region 7-4A win of the season.

Kinsey poured in 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for West Hall (4-6, 1-3 Region 7-4A. Riley Harkin added 8 points for the Lady Spartans.

First-year West Hall coach Shawana Harrison said she was pleased with how they overcame a slow start. The Lady Spartans led just 11-9 after the first quarter but outscored the Lady Danes 27-12 over the second and third quarters to blow the game open.

"We had a rough start but we kept pushing and started knocking down some open shots. And we hit our free throws," Harrison said. "It was great teamwork to get a big win."

West Hall next will play host to Jefferson on Friday.

 

CEDAR SHOALS 66
GAINESVILLE 57

Cedar Shoals opened the game with an 18-10 first quarter and held off the Lady Red Elephants Tuesday night in a non-region game.
 
The loss snapped Gainesville's (6-4) three-game win streak
 
Gainesville battled back to within 35-28 by halftime and 52-47 heading into the fourth quarter but could not complete the comeback.

Tia Shelton poured in 21 points for the Lady Red Elephants. Tija Blackwell added 19 points and Sadie Roach 14 points for Gainesville.

The Lady Red Elephants return to action on Dec. 27 against East Hall in the first round of the Lanierland Tournament.

 

RABUN COUNTY 78
ELBERT COUNTY 44

Rabun County remained unbeaten in Region 8-2A after a dominating win on the road.

Brooke Henricks led the Lady Wildcats (7-1, 3-0 Region 8-2A) with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Destiny Deetz added 14 points and 7 rebounds, Georgia Stockton had 13 points, and Laken Stiles 10 points and 7 assists for Rabun County.

It was the fifth straight win for the Wildcats, who play host to Cherokee (N.C.) on Thursday.

Jalexus Burden led Elbert County (4-6, 1-2 Region 8-2A) with 11 points.

 

LCA 51
YACS 26

 

Lanier Christian Academy opened the game with a 9-0 and never looked back in taking  win at home on Tuesday.

LCA extended the lead to 25-4 by halftime and took a 36-17 lead into the fourth quarter.

 

Madison Hughes led LCA with 12 points. Reece Montgomery and Ashley Avery each had 8 as nine different players scored.

Lanier Christian is off until Dec. 28 when it plays the loser of the play-in game in the Lanierland Tournament at 8 a.m. at West Hall High School.
