With the Christmas break just around the corner, most northeast Georgia area teams will stage one last region blitz before the New Year with some huge games on tap this week.
However, the most intriguing of the week's schedule has to be the Flowery Branch grls taking a cross-country trek to Phoenix, Ariz., to play in the prestigious Nke Tournament of Champions. The event runs from Wednesday to Saturday and the Lady Falcons will play four games in four days before returning home for a three-day break before Lanierland.
Back at home, several key region matchups will highlight Tuesday's action.
Region 8-2A continues its early monster matchups. Banks County travels to Monticello with the boys trying to stay atop the region standings while the girls are trying to shake off a surprising 0-2 start in region play. Rabun County heads to Elbert County with the Lady Wildcats looking to remain unbeaten in region play while the boys are still looking for their first region win of the season. Union County plays host to Social Circle in another key set of games.
In Region 7-3A, East Hall plays host to Fannin County as the unbeaten Vikings boys try to keep pace with Greater Atlanta Christian atop the standings against the Rebels, who are winless in region play. The Lady Vikings and Lady Rebels both are looking to remain in the upper-tier in the early going. The biggest showdown of the night in 7-3A will be in Dawsonville between the Dawson County and Lumpkin County girls in a battle for third place in what is shaping up to be one of the most competitive and balanced regions in the state.
And in Region 7-4A White County and Chestatee will duel in Cleveland while West Hall plays host to Denmark.
