FLOWERY BRANCH — Cherokee Bluff opened its first-ever basketball season with a convincing 70-19 win over Lanier Christian Academy Tuesday night.
Freshman Timber Gaither poured in 20 points to lead the Lady Bears past LCA.
“It was a good game to get our feet wet,” Bluff coach Lindsay Justice said. “We have some younger kids that haven’t played in a varsity game, so it was a good experience for everyone.”
Behind the firepower of Gaither, Maddie Thomas, Chelsea Reece, Alexis Mize, and Madi Phillips, Cherokee Bluff outscored LCA 33-11 in the first half and 37-8 in the second.
Thomas netted 11 points. Reece and Phillips ended the night with 10. AP Graham and Gabby Stanley had 3 and Sydney Jones and Brandyn Peterson had 2.
Faith Wasden led LCA with 5 points.
“Everyone got to play tonight,” Justice said. “It was good to get the first win for our school.”
Cherokee Bluff (1-0) will travel to Forsyth Central in Cumming Friday. Game time set for 7:30 p.m.

The Gainesville girls basketball team dropped its season opener to Grayson 72-47 Tuesday night on the road.
It was the first game for the Lady Red Elephants under new head coach Alan Griffin.
Tija Blackwell had a solid first game pouring in 22 points. Tia Shelton added 8 points with Sadie Roach contributing 7 and Lauren Teasley 6 for Gainesville.
The Lady Red Elephants (0-1) will travel to Riverdale on Friday to take on KIPP Atlanta. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Vanessa Floyd scored 11 points and nabbed 10 boards to lead Towns County past Hiawassee Dam (N.C) Tuesday night in Hiawassee.
It was a close game in the first half, but the Lady Indians took a 23-17 lead to the locker room at the half.
Towns came out on fire in the third quarter outscoring Hiawassee Dam 17-1 and led by as many as 22 points in the second half. The Lady Indian defense was tough to handle, forcing 31 turnovers.
Taylor Cornett tossed in 10 points and Kennedi Henson scored 8.
The Lady Indians (1-0) will travel to Union County on Nov. 20. Game time is 7 p.m.

Eliza Snyder was too tough to tame Tuesday night as Lakeview dominated Class 3A Monroe Area in Gainesville.
Snider chipped in 26 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals to lead the Lady Lions.
Sadie Thrailkill turned in a double-double performance with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Lakeview (1-0) will play in the North Forsyth holiday tournament Saturday against Hillgrove. Game time set for 9:30 a.m.

MacKenzie Pulley and Isabel Davenport combined for 42 points to lead Lumpkin County past Chestatee 63-30 Tuesday night in Dahlonega.
Pulley led the Lady Indians with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Davenport nailed 9 of her 18 points behind the 3-point line.
Clara White had 7 points. Makenzie Caldwell scored 6, and Ashlynn Wistoski and Madisyn Echols hit for 4 points each.
The Lady Indians (1-0) will play in a Thanksgiving tournament Saturday in Watkinsville. They'll face Oconee County. Game time is 11 a.m.
