Dawsonville woman killed in head-on crash in Lumpkin County

By B.J. Williams

A Dawsonville woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning on Hwy. 115 (SR 115) in Lumpkin County.

The Georgia State Patrol said Audie Dorris, 59, was the front seat passenger in a Honda Pilot that was hit head-on by a Toyota Tacoma being driven by Austin Durham, 19, of Cleveland.

Sgt. Casey Coffee said in an email statement that Durham was driving the Tacoma truck in the left eastbound lane of SR 115 near Copper Mines Road. Durham crossed the center line and traveled into the eastbound lanes of traffic, striking a Honda Pilot being driven by William Dorris, 72, of Dawsonville.

William Dorris was seriously injured and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment. His wife, Audie Dorris, also was transported to the hospital, where she died from her injuries, according to Coffee.

Coffee said Durham was taken to the hospital, as well, to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.

"[Durham] was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash," Coffee said. "Mr. Durham will be charged with second degree vehicular homicide, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway and for not wearing his seat belt."

The fatal accident was reported at 6:37 a.m.
