Girls basketball: Branch, Banks County, East Hall, Lakeview get wins

ATHENS — The Flowery Branch girls stayed within striking distance of Buford in Region 8-AAAAA with a big road win over Cedar Shoals Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Falcons (16-4, 6-1 Region 8-AAAAA) opened the game with a 20-7 run and then cruised to the victory. They remained in second place one game behind the Lady Wolves in the region standings.

Flowery Branch led 35-17 at halftime and then held the Lady Jaguars to just three third quarter points while building a 58-20 lead.

Caroline Wysocki paced the Lady Falcons with 15 points. Ashley Scott added 13 and Ashlee Locke 10 for Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch and Cedar Shoals will hook up again on Tuesday in Flowery Branch in another region contest.

 

BUFORD GIRLS 57,
HARRISON 35

Buford put together a defensive gem on Saturday as the Lady Wolves, ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAA, took down the Class AAAAAA No. 1 -ranked Lady Hoyas on the road.
 
Tate Walters led 11 Buford players in scoring with 17 points. Audrey Weiner added 14 points and Ebony Grant 10 for the Lady Wolves (14-2).
 
Buford will play Class AAAAAAA Norcross on Monday in a makeup game from December.

 

EAST HALL GIRLS 63,
CHESTATEE 51

The Lady Vikings pushed their season-long win streak to four with a non-region victory on the road.
 
East Hall (11-8) used a big first quarter to grab the lead and then held off a second half rally. The Lady Vikings led 28-16 after the opening period and increased the lead to 42-24 by halftime.
 
But Chestatee (8-12) used a 16-7 spurt in the third quarter to pull within 49-40. East Hall preserved the win at the free throw line hitting 9-of-10 in the fourth quarter. The Lady Vikings were 13-of-15 at the foul line for the game. Chestatee was just 4-of-5 from the line.
 
Carly Winter paced East Hall with 14 points. Jenny Lopez added 12 and Maggie Griffin had 8 for the Lady Vikings.
 
Chestatee's Lindsey Caudell led all scorer with 20 points.
 
 

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 76
OGLETHORPE COUNTY 25

The Lady Leopards ran their win streak to 10 straight games with a Region 8-AA win on the road.

Jaycie Bowen poured in 17 points to go with 9 rebounds to lead Banks County (16-3, 6-0 Region 8-AA).

Amber Williams one day after a career-best performance against Putnam County, had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Allison Smith added 14 points for the Lady Leopards.

Morgan Lyons and Kailynn Gilstrap had 8 points apiece.

Banks County is off until next Friday when it travels to Monticello in a Region 8-AA battle.

 

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 55,
OGLETHORPE COUNTY 44

Sadie Thrailkill had a monster game with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 steals to lead Lakeview to a Region 8-A road win.

Tori Taylor with added 15 points on five 3-pointers to go with 8 rebounds for the Lady Lions.

The Lady Lions (10-7, 6-1 Region 8-A) next will travel to Hebron Christian on Tuesday for another Region 8-A battle.
