Basketball: Slater steps down as Johnson boys coach

By AccessWDUN

OAKWOOD — Johnson High School Athletic Director Jonathan Edwards announced Tuesday that head coach Tim Slater has resigned his teaching and coaching positon at the school to accept a positon in another district.

Slater led the Knights boys basketball team for the past two seasons, compiling a 16-36 record. He had succeeded Jeff Steele, who had left to accept the head basketball positon at Lumpkin County High School after concluding his final year with a region championship, a Lanierland title, and a quarterfinal finish in the state tournament.

Prior to coming to Johnson, Slater had served as an assistant coach at Buford High School.

“Tim Slater is stepping down to take a position in another school system. We thank him for his hard work, and wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future,” Edwards said.

According to Johnson officials, the search for a replacement is underway. During the interim, assistant coach Drew Lawrence will handle boys basketball responsibilities.
