Commuters in, and those driving through, Gwinnett County now have access to county transit schedules and ETA's through their smartphones.
The Gwinnett County Transit Division has partnered with Google Transit to provide an online tool providing riders with step-by-step trip planning from their desktop computers or smartphones.
“This is really helpful for a transit rider who is perhaps going to a new destination,” said Karen Winger, director of the Gwinnett County Transit Division.
“You can input your typical starting point and your new destination and the system will identify what route and what mode of transit is available.”
By inputting their starting and ending points, Google will provide transit options available near those locations. Commuters also can access customized route data with multiple travel options.
"It will actually, since MARTA is on there, give you information on how to utilize Gwinnett County Transit to get downtown through Marta or the Express Trip buses that leave from Sugarloaf, Buford at 985 Route 20 or Indian Trail Park and Ride. The new express route from Indian Trail to Emory is on the application as well," said Winger.
She said transit systems all over the country have been utilizing tools such as this one and it was time Gwinnett had something similar so residents can see what options they have available.
The Transit Division also has a live tracking tool that will allow people to see where the busses are in real time through Google.
Winger said Gwinnett County will soon be kicking off the Comprehensive Transit Development Plan.
"It looks at Gwinnett County's needs for the division since it is now 15 years old. It will help us look at what other kinds of projects we need to invest in the county based on resident participation," she said.
