UPDATED: Lumpkin County Elementary employee detained following alleged threats

An employee of Lumpkin County Elementary School was detained by law enforcement Thursday after an anonymous tipster alleged the employee was suicidal and threatening to harm students.

"No student (or anyone) was ever threatened," said Lt. Chris Pfrogner with the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office in an email to AccessWDUN.

"(The tipster) called a suicide hotline. The questioning was a result of the nature to the call. It is normal protocol. And as of now there are no charges pending."

Both Lumpkin County Elementary and Lumpkin County Middle School were placed on lockdown while the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol responded to the call, according to a statement posted on social media by Sheriff Stacy Jarrard.

"We are still trying to find out who made those statements. It was not made by the employee at the school. And, as of now, we have not found anyone at the school who heard him make those alleged threats," said Pfrogner.

The male employee was found in the middle school parking lot.

"A thorough search of his person and vehicle were conducted and no weapons were found," Jarrard wrote.
