Authorities say Goodson Road in southern Dawson County was closed for several hours after a small aircraft crashed there just before noon Sunday.
Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson said police were told of the crash at around 11:57 a.m. after the 1946 single-engine plane went down on the two-lane road that connects Dawson Forest Road with Silver City Road.
Lanier Swafford, director of the Dawson County Emergency Management Services, said the pilot, whose name has not been released, was able to leave the aircraft under his own power and was transported for medical treatment. He has since been released.
Swafford said Goodson Road was closed for several hours as recovery and cleanup crews worked the scene. No other injuries were reported in the crash.
Johnson said the Federal Aviation Administration is handling the investigation. He says there are reports that the plane was leaving Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville and heading for Ohio.
The plane is the second to crash in Northeast Georgia in the last four days after a plane crashed at the Barrow County Airport Thursday, leaving two people dead.
