Toccoa teen faces charges after two-county chase

TOCCOA — The Georgia State Patrol has released details of the Thursday-night vehicle pursuit of a Toccoa teen that began in Habersham County and was ended by a GSP trooper in Toccoa.

A Habersham County Sheriff’s Office deputy was in an active pursuit of a 2001 Acura 3.5 RL on Ga. 365 northbound and entered Stephens County, according to GSP Post 7 in Toccoa.

Trooper 1st Class Aaron Church had just left the GSP station and was southbound on Ga. 365 when the pursuit passed him traveling in the opposite direction.

After his assistance was requested by Habersham County, Church activated his emergency equipment and reached the pursuit as it approached Ga. 365 at Jeanette Jamieson Intersection, according to Post 7. The pursuit continued south on Ga. 17 and traveled to Cawthon Road, where the violator entered the left turn lane.

When Church began to set up to perform the PIT Maneuver at that Cawthon Road intersection, the violator slammed on his vehicle’s brakes, according to Post 7. The right front of Church’s push bumper struck the left rear quarter of the suspect vehicle, causing the suspect vehicle to rotate counterclockwise. Church’s push bumper then struck the left front fender of the violator’s car.

After impact, the fleeing vehicle continued back north on Ga. 17 and turned right onto Ga. 184, toward the city of Toccoa.

The pursuit continued north on Ga. 184 into Toccoa and near the intersection with South Pine Street, Church attempted the PIT Maneuver again, according to Post 7. Following the PIT, the suspect vehicle rotated counterclockwise and came to a stop facing west in the northbound lane of Ga. 184.

Both the fleeing vehicle and the GSP unit sustained functional damage, but there were no injuries and was no third-party damage during the pursuit, according to GSP.

Church identified the fleeing driver as Nicholas Ryan Brock, 17, of Toccoa.

Brock was charged by GSP with felony fleeing, speeding, driving in the gore, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, failure to maintain license, driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, no insurance, driving on CP license (learner’s permit), and reckless driving in Stephens County, according to Church.

Church said Brock also faces charges in Habersham County.
