CHEROKEE, N.C. — The Dawson County girls were outscored 31-13 in the second and third quarters in a 68-42 loss to Northview (Tenn.) in a holiday tournament on Wednesday.
The Lady Tigers (7-4) kept it close in the beginning trailing just 17-16 after the first quarter. But Northview used a 13-5 second quarter to take a 30-21 lead into halftime and then blew the game open with an 18-8 third quarter for a 48-29 advantage.
Defensive breakdowns and turnovers in the second half doomed Dawson County to its second consecutive loss.
Calli Watson paced Dawson County with 12 points on four 3-pointers. Abi Chatham added 9 points, Cadey Ayers had 8, and Sophia D'Oliveira scored 7 points for the Lady Tigers.
Dawson County next will play Neuse Charter out of North Carolina at 1 p.m. on Thursday.

The Lady Indians (4-5) could not overcome a rough start in falling in the opening round of the Battle of the States tournament at Towns County High School.
Murphy ran out to a 21-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Bulldogs led 42-20 at halftime and 63-35 heading into the fourth quarter.
